Every once in a while the need to express myself in an artistic manner rolls over my brain. I'd carved some birds and cartoon figures eight years ago, but my move to West Virginia from Falls Church, Virginia, seemed to have eliminated the need. After about 8 years out here on the mountain, I decided I needed to get my hands on a sharp knife again.My last creation, which had resulted in raves from my then significant other, was a wood spirit carved into a walking stick that I'd given her (and which she subsequently left behind). I found the pattern stick, but lost the documentation describing what to do.This book was an excellent resource to get back in the saddle and begin carving again. The instructions are clear and concise. The net result is a carving that somebody who'd never tried carving before will admire.Now, all I need to do is recover eight years of lost talent...
The pamphlet is overpriced. The photos are blurry. The directions are helpful but not being able to see the photos well detracts from the description.
This is not what I expected. It is a good book for carvers with tools such as gouges, chisels,etc.I was looking for information for whittling wood spirits with knives exclusively. The text should be edited, . there are misspelled words. The pictures were difficult to discern because of their positioning.
I love this book but it is a little more difficult to follow. I cannot say it is the book as it may be my lack of experience. The book does have a lot of awesome ideas.

I got this book after a few other carving books. This was the most expensive and much less nice. Its more like a pamphlet. But I guess its gonna not too bad. I repeat not worth 14 dollars. Kinda dissapointed in what I got.

This book is one of the best books that I have to carve wood spirits in walking sticks. It's plain and simple, just like me! I don't like all these fancy gallery picture books and fancy faces to carve. I just want it simple and easy to do. This book will help you step by step and have some really good results! I'm just a beginner and I was really pleased with my stick!
