My husband and I recently watched the Amazon series Bosch based on Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch books. I thought it was excellent and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys that sort of thing. The story told in City of Bones was one of the ones that was dramatized for the television series, but there were differences between what appeared on screen and Connelly's written version. I think I like the book better, although the dramatization was interesting also. The story begins on New Year's Day when a dog returns to his owner, while they are walking in the Hollywood Hills, carrying a bone he has dug up. His owner is a retired doctor and he recognizes the bone as the humerus of a child. He contacts the police and Harry Bosch, working the holiday, takes the call.Harry goes to the area and begins the search for other bones. He finds them pretty easily. They are scattered over an area up in the hills. It looks like they have been there for a long time.Soon the Medical Examiner and anthropologists are on the scene and, in time, it is determined that the bones have been in place since the late '70s or early '80s. Through dogged investigation, Bosch and his partner Jerry Edgar are able to confirm that the bones belong to a child who disappeared in May of 1980. The medical examination of the bones confirms further that the child - a 12-year-old boy - was beaten to death. Not only was the victim beaten to death but throughout his short life, he had been systematically and cruelly abused. Bosch is deeply affected by this discovery, at least in part because of his own troubled childhood, and he vows to find the perpetrator of this crime and bring him to justice. As we follow the twists and turns of the investigation, the body count begins to mount. A completely innocent man, who lives in the neighborhood where the child's bones were found, commits suicide because, in the course, of the investigation, an old secret of his is unearthed and it is leaked to a reporter who makes the assumption that he is the guilty person. The resulting notoriety of the media mania is more than the man can take.On the trail of a potential witness, the police operation attempting to bring the man in for questioning goes horribly awry and a rookie police officer, seeking her own version of glory and heroism, is shot. Harry witnesses what happened, putting him in a difficult position because he knows that the man they were attempting to capture was not resisting and had nothing to do with the shooting. This is made even more difficult by his personal relationship with that police officer and the fact that she dies from her wound. (This was one of the differences between the book and the TV show.)Through all of this, the mystery just seems to get murkier and it appears that Bosch and his team are not making any headway; however, persistence pays off and finally the solution to the mystery comes together, but before the final piece of the puzzle can be put in place, another person is killed. So, three dead bodies join the bones of the dead child, but, in the end, the stubbornness of Harry Bosch wins the day. Solving murders is a sacred mission for him. It is his religion, and he always holds fast to that. It makes him a very good detective. It also makes him one difficult bugger to work with, even when he isn't deliberately trying to step on people's toes. The ending of this novel was a bit of a surprise (no spoilers) and it will be interesting to see where the series goes after this. There are twelve more (so far) books in the series, so we know that Harry will be around to entertain us for a while. And that's a good thing.

When you read a murder mystery, you have some expectations. Unlike in the real world where the killer and the motive are usually more apparent, you expect some minimum things from your murder mystery even if those things aren't necessarily realistic because you're reading a piece of fiction. You want some twists and turns, you want some thrills, but most importantly, you want a good climatic ending with the killer where you come to understand what the motive was for the murder. In this novel, you get investigational focuses that lead nowhere and are dropped like a brick, you get a romance that ultimately added nothing to the book (as opposed to some other Bosch novels where the romance helped flesh out details about our hero), and by the end of the book, you have major unanswered questions about a major plot point in the middle of the book that is never adequately explained and about the motive of the killer at the end of the book, to say nothing about the fact that the murder weapon is never even identified. The premise is something that could have made for a good book, but it wasn't executed upon. It feels like a book that was rushed to get out on the market.

Harry Bosch is still a cop but he’s approaching that point in his career, with over twenty-five years of service, when he can be retired by administrative action. He and his partner, Jerry Edgar, catch a very old case involving the murder of a ten year old boy over twenty years ago. Harry is also involved on a personal level with a younger police officer named Julia Brasher. They have to be extra careful not to advertise their affair or it will be all over the squad room before you could say Jack Sprat. Such a liaison would be a career killer for both police officers. This book shows how Bosch and Edgar perform a slow and methodical search of what evidence remains and those clues which can be unearthed, so to speak. The plot moves along the rim of a giant circle and eventually reaches a point where Bosch, Edgar and higher police authorities are satisfied that justice has been served. It’s a good read but, all things considered, it’s more of a detailed police procedural on a cold case rather than an action-filled detective mystery.

Other reviewers have provided a synopsis of this book where Harry Bosch and Jerry Edgar are working on a case from 20 years prior, only 20 years ago, it would have been a disappearance of a child and now it is a murder. Most of the action revolves around police procedures; and there is the added plot line of Harry's romantic involvement with a considerably younger rookie female officer. I did not feel that there was much depth in exploring or presenting either character in this relationship. Julia is shot and killed under questionable circumstances when they only knew one another for a couple of weeks and had been together only a few times. All about her, even his meeting with her Dad at the grave site, is left in a shroud of mystery and superficiality; yet I did not think she was simply a diversion for Bosch. I gave it 4 Stars because of that. The body count surrounding this case rises quickly; however, Harry does find the murderer to his own satisfaction. The ending was unexpected; and provided the first time in this series that I truly hoped Harry would see the Department's psychiatrist. Suppressing his feelings did not seem redemptive at all to me; and Harry is definitely on a search for redemption and forgiveness.

The pictures are detailed and I believe I will enjoy coloring them. I just got the book and haven't had a lot of time to look at it completely but it seems that there are color photos in the back to show what the creatures look like in the movies.

I love these books. Yes they are double sided, non-perforated pages. For me that just means I got to experience more with colored pencils. Thats a plus. As far as the pages sprawling across 2 pages being uncolorable I find that false. A lot of people are complaining about the merperson page. I've attached a picture of my finished one.

I liked many of the pictures in this book, however, I'll be returning it. There are just way too many double page spread pictures that go into the binding loosing faces and important details of a picture. For the price of this book, I expected better. I shouldn't have to break the spine of a nice coloring book I paid decent money for in order to color the pictures. Some of the nicest pictures in the book are those that go into the binding, which is really disappointing.

There are 3 things I don't like about this coloring book.1- pictures are printed on both sides of the page. This means you have to be careful about what you use to color (markers/pens bleed through, colored pencils can make indentations to the other side).2- Some of the pictures are drawn across 2 facing pages. These don't look nice because there is a gap in the middle of the picture where the pages meet.3- The book does not lay flat, so it's hard to color the edges sometimes, and if you're in the front or back of the book (as opposed to the middle), you have to hold the book open while you color sometimes.I do like the pictures and think they are fun to color. I just wish they had put more thought into the actual format of the physical book.

I love Harry Potter. I have bought all the coloring books. This is the first I received so today I worked in it a lot!Paper quality is so so. It's not terrible like copy paper but it could be thicker. The color is off white. The book has double sided pages a con. The artwork varies greatly from page to page. Some has poor line work ( seems unrefined) some are very nice lines. The images go into the binding making it difficult to color some pages.Over all I love the book for the great things but they really should have been able to release a better product.

I love these coloring books but my only complaint is with them being two sided. I know someone commented and said that all adult and children's coloring books are that way but I have 20+ adult coloring books and they are all one sided, so I wish Scholastic had done the same with these ones. It makes the coloring utensil selection difficult to make sure things don't bleed through the paper. I also wish the paper was white and not off-white. That being said, they're great coloring books for HP fans and the images are very nice. I am looking forward to owning the rest of them.

I like this book, although the images aren't as complex as some of the other Harry Potter books. Still fun to colour. Dual-sided pages mean you need to be cautious what you use to colour with. At least the characters look close to what was shown in the movie and there is a guide in the back with coloured pictures to help you refresh your memory on how you could fill them in. (I personally like to make them all look different based on whatever random mood I am in.)Overall, this is a really fun book to look through and even more fun to colour. A nice way to commemorate a set of books and films that has really taken over our hearts.

I love HP and the variety of characters in this book. I just wish the back grounds on some of them were more relevant. For example the backgrounds of Buck beak and the Cornish pixies. I personally don't like when an image spans two pages but I can live with it for hours of Harry Potter coloring. :)

the best complement I can think to give any book is that I wish the book didn't end. That's very much the case here. This is a wonderful dystopic SF story that makes you think, and is never quite what it seems. There's a lot of grey, and the only clear black and white is evinced by some of the supporting characters. Nearly all of the main characters in some way defy societal norms in terms of gender and/or sexuality, and their queerness only enhances the story, never detracting from it.If you're someone who can't tolerate people who deviate from cis-gendered heterosexuality, this book probably won't be to your liking. Otherwise, I can't recommend it highly enough. Read and enjoy.

I pretty much only read science fiction, and I've done so all my life. Even so, though I've read several books where the protagonist or a majorcharacter was gay, I don't believe I've ever read one with a full complement of LGBT characters. The story here is strong and well-crafted,and eventually everyone's gender identity and sexuality assumed their rightful places, to me, as simply part of the plot. Each of the charactershas depth, complexity, and surprises to them. To me personally it is gratifying to read a book where people treat one another with warmth andsincerity. (Something that can be a bit harder to run across in the real world, at times.) The story has a good balance of action to interpersonalexchange. There are some fairly graphic and joyful sex scenes. Overall I'd say that it was well worth reading.

As another reviewer mentioned, this novel showed a lot of promise but devolved quickly into sex-crazed characterizations. This left the Mineko plot sorely underdeveloped and made it hard for the reader to care about most of the characters.

Cyborg lesbians and a dystopian future setting. Fairly near future-tech employed. Quite a few steamy sex scenes tho not overly gratuitous. If that sounds like something you'll enjoy then this book is for you. It won't change your life but it will probably entertain you quite nicely, at least it did me.

Wow! A very intriguing story of a future world.

This book wound up feeling more like a sociological statement and less of a grand adventure, but I'm getting ahead of myself. The author created some fairly interesting characters (cyborg, shut-in Codist girl, smuggler, delightfully psychopathic bodyguard type), though Lexi herself actually got more annoying as the book went on. There was some really good world building and great concepts to build on. On the other hand, the ending felt really abrupt (strange considering the length of the book) and I didn't feel like there was any build up, in part because there was some question as to who the antagonist was, or if there was one at all. If you read it, you might understand my confusion. Also, while I love the wide variety of characters from the LGBTQ spectrum that were included, I found it odd that EVERYONE (as far as I can remember right now) came from that group. Inclusiveness is desperately needed in popular fiction and kudos to the author for pushing the envelope, but the needle moved from the "about dang time" portion of the gauge to "perhaps overkill?" Still, it was a good effort by a new author, and I think it warrants giving a second book a chance.

I didn’t know what to expect when I chose this Queer Pack novel, but it was such a good book I could not put it down. It’s a sci fi dystopia reminiscent of Orwell and Bradbury, especially the Codist enclaves. A large cast of characters of all genders and inclinations makes the story deeper. Everyone is unique and well-drawn. There is danger, adventure, intrigue, sex, a little romance, friendship and growth. The premise is a society of haves (the Codists) in their gated communities who both fear and want to control the people outside, and the have-nots who in turn fear and loathe the Codists. The Codists have engineered their society into Stepford wives and developed a chip that is supposed to allow the user to control the minds of everyone. Unfortunately for them, everyone who was implanted with it has died. They discover there is one person who survived but she is not a Codist. That starts the action.I enjoyed the action but I really liked the character growth. Everyone that I cared about grew in one way or another. They also began to care for and accept others who were not initially their friends. There are also some mysteries from the past that the author gradually reveals which made the book even more interesting. I liked this book and I will be reading it again soon, I’m sure.I received an ARC for an honest review.

Reintegration is a dystopian sci-fi story that paints a grim picture of a very possible future. The gulf between the haves (the Codists—privileged people who follow the Code and live in enclaves where no one wants for anything) and the have nots (everyone who lives outside of the enclaves) is immeasurably huge. Even the Codists who aren’t in the top echelon have more than most of the people who live in the anarchy that is the rest of Foundation. Gangs rule, drugs abound, the flesh trade is alive and well, and for the right price you can have anything, including body modifications that we could only dream of today (gills, anyone?).

I am reviewing the Kindle Version of this book. Ok, first off...I have read through this entire book. The information on the Instant Pot and Keto Diet is very well written and easy to understand. The recipes really look good too. I am certainly going to make a lot of them, they are well written, and the steps are easy to follow. Nothing seemed too complicated. All in all, I WOULD give this book 5 stars. BUT, I must take 1 star away because there aren't very many photos of the recipes! I counted my way through, and came up with only 28 recipe photos. With over 175 recipes, 28 photos is NOT enough. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I usually decide upon a recipe by looking at the photo. I can't do that with this cookbook. But, as I said, the recipes do look good, so I'll give this 4 stars. It must be quite expensive to publish photos of each recipe in cookbooks, because I've seen it in many, many cookbooks. It just makes the few that DO publish photos of each recipe much more special to me. Check out Carolyn Ketchum and Kyndra Holley's low carb cookbook, great recipes and lots of photos. (at least in the ones I have purchased from those two authors). So, final comment, I would certainly recommend this cookbook.

These recipes are very basic. That wouldn’t be a good enough reason to only give two stars though. The problem is the book complicates recipes in order to use the instant pot. For the chocolate chip fat bombs and the almond butter fat bombs for instance - the only thing you do in the instant pot is melt coconut oil. A pan or the microwave would be easier and quicker. The chocolate mousse recipe doesn’t even use the instant pot. The fried egg and avocado sandwich have you using the instant pot to saute bacon and then an egg. This is just not the best tool for these jobs. Sadly this one is going back.

While this recipe book has several very good recipes, I think the publisher may have gone to print too quickly. There are several glaring mistakes in the recipes. For example, in the Lemon Poppyseed Cake recipe, the description talks about the lemon zest adding a nice tartness, but the recipe doesn't include lemon zest in the list of ingredients. The Cauliflower Breakfast Casserole instructions tell you to steam 1/2 head of cauliflower and then set it aside and then never mentions the cauliflower again, so you have to guess as to what you are supposed to do with it. These are just two examples of poor editing. I added lemon zest to the cake recipe (about a tablespoon) and that is one of my husband's favorite desserts. Many of the recipes are delicious, but be aware that there may be ingredients missing or you may have to use your cook's intuition to complete the dish.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t love my IP. Which is why I bought this book. I just wasn’t using it since going Keto. This book has so many great recipes. Clear instructions, easy ingredients and delicious food.

Some of the recipes are good, but the directions aren't clear. There are times that steps are missed, If I didn't know how to cook.... I'd be leaving the chicken in a bowl put to the side... never told when to put the chicken back into the pot.The directions in the use of the Instant Pot are also not clear, if you have a different version of the Instant pot (and you are just starting to use the instant pot) you have to figure out which button to push.

Love this book. It's full of great recipes. Just be aware it advises to put A glass bowl into the instapot and that should never be done!

Recipes are yummy but doesnt reveal yield amount nor amount of servings . It would be useful to determine just how many servings -nutionanal information given. Otherwise the recipes seem easy and many have the ability to be sone outside of instant pot if needed.

I FOUND THIS AT MY LOCAL LIBRARY AND LOVE THE RECIPES
