Patrick Johnstone is well known and respected as researcher and author of the first six editions of Operation World. Patrick also wrote The Church Is Bigger Than You Think. Patrick is married to Robyn, and together they serve as pastors-at-large to the WEC missionaries in Europe.

Before this work was published, we used Operation World as a family, but I found it challenging in two respects. First, it was difficult to summarize the overwhelming content on each country into the 5 minutes that I had my kids' attention. Second, praying through countries alphabetically in Operation World made us jump from continent to continent and was confusing to my kids. So we ended up praying through regions of the world, but I had to print out my own maps and flip around through the book to find each country. "Pray for the World" has fixed both of these problems with the abridged content and much easier organization of countries within their respective region. I'm thoroughly enjoying using this prayer guide each night to help my kids pray for God's work among the nations.I heartily agree with theses following words that come from the preface of Operation World, reminding me of the privilege of being apart of God's global work through prayer: "Each and every prayer is a tiny piece of a great cosmic puzzle, which when fitted together will allow for the completion of the grand picture of the Almighty Lord's plan for humanity and the universe. We don't merely pray ABOUT the many points featured herein, we pray TOWARD something, and that something is magnificent - the fulfillment of the Father's purposes and His Kingdom come."
I LOVE this book! I appreciate the way it is organized, first by continent, then alphabetically by country within the continent. It gives general information on each continent, and then specific information on each country. There are maps of each of the continents, and maps of each of the countries. There is a guide in the back of the book to help people pray for the whole world in a year. The information that is given on each country helped me feel a more personal connection to each people group. I use this book for personal prayers, to set up the prayer list for my church, and I've given it to several friends. I highly recommend it if you are serious about systematically praying for the world.
Pray for the World is helpful to me. I am thankful for Molly Wall, who helped edit it, and Patrick Johnstone. I am indebted to those who helped in the production of Operation World, which the book is taken from. I am praying a new Operation World will be published in 2017. This book has less information than Operation World and will be used more I believe.I am using this book almost daily to pray for other countries. In Luke chapter 18 in the Bible, we are told by Christ prayer makes a difference. The bread at midnight story and the older lady and the judge help us see that God will respond as you pray. Try it.
The book needs to be updated to cover the situations in the 21st century. Much research has gone into the writing of this book, but the changing scenerio of world geopolitics today has greatly affected the spiritual growth and decline of some nations and this isnt reflected in the book. However, nothwithstanding this lack, intercessors can still benefit from the details given in the book.
This smaller version of the Operation World book is a great tool for me for prayer. It is much easier to carry around. The prayer calendar is in the back of the book. The book is organized by continent / region and then the countries are listed alphabetically within those regions. I'm not getting rid of my Operation World book but when I travel, Pray for the World will go with me.
I pray for a different country every day. This is a brilliant compilation. They include lots of ordinary statistics but also special prayer points. A "one-of-a-kind" guide which I think every Christian should be using. We need to have a world view especially since the world is SHRINKING!
Operation World is indispensable -- but now, it's also portable! The nations are laid out with just key details chosen for each one. Prayer now has content to fuel it! The only thing I don't like is that the calendar date is not printed on each page -- you have to put a bookmarker in on the page that lists the country of the day. I'd love to see the dates back on the main pages, since the idea of praying in unison with Christians all over the world, for the same country on the same day, is one of the primary selling points for using Operation World.
This is an excellent abridged version of Operation World. With this prayer hand book you could meaningfully pray for all the nations of the world in a daily basis. The kindle edition is excellent and the formatting is nice. You can navigate to any country through the Index of Countries in the contents page. Buy it. Pray through it. Be a God's channel of blessing to the world.
