Great Zimbabwe, 25km southeast of MasvingoThis magnificent ruined city, the largest stone structure to be built south of the Sahara, was the base for a succession of kings and rulers spanning four centuries and has subsequently had the whole country named after it. The name Zimbabwe is derived from the Shona words dzimba dza mabwe  translated as ‘houses of stone’, referring not just to this prime site but also to the hundreds, if not thousands of similar but much smaller dzimbahwes or  zimbabwes to be found in this area and further afield. The rather strange carved soapstone birds found here have provided the country with its national symbol.Although this region had almost certainly been already settled for a number of centuries it is believed the first stone structures were erected around 1100 AD and there followed continual building development probably into the 15th century.  Despite what we now know, the provenance of Great Zimbabwe has up until relatively recently been the subject of heated, often bitter debate stemming from the early European belief that Africans could not possibly have built a structure of such complexity. Indeed, since its discovery by the Portuguese it had been popularly believed that this was the lost kingdom of Ophir with all its fabled treasures and was linked with biblical figures such as Sheba and King Solomon. Much later, others, including Cecil Rhodes continued to attribute the ruins to the Phoenicians. Instead, this was clearly a massively important religious and political centre, not a military fort but a continually developing tribute to a long succession of rulers who had wide reaching influence. It is believed that in its heyday the city complex housed a society of up to 20,000 people. Today it is one of Zimbabwe’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites

I especially appreciated the personal note about the safety level of the country in the introduction to the book. We were there twoweeks before the last election as tourists and felt completely safe. There was no danger. Unfortunately the major tourist sites aresuffering because of lack of tourists in the country.

Guide did a nice job of summarizing history, politics and attractions from a true insider's viewpoint. The country is in better shape in 2013 then when this was published in 2010. Currency exchange is no longer an issue. Couldn't find any more recent guide.

A great resource for traveling through Zimbabwe.

Am travelling to Zimbabwe next month and I think this book will be invaluable. My husband and I are very impressed by the attention to details.

This is one of the most important books I will ever own. Dr. Keesha has provided a readable, hands on approach with real life tools and explanations of why we get autoimmune diseases and what we can do about it to be a part of our own healing journey. If you want to be in the drivers seat when it comes to your own health and wellness, and are searching for answers and you are truly committed to looking deeper, this book is a valuable tool and a must read!

The first half is informative and helpful, the second half gets a bit too far out there for me, and then it gets to be a sales pitch for expensive products.

Just another cart on the caravan of this particular genre of medical self-help books. Go to Dr. Tom O'Bryan's "The Autoimmune Fix" for the best, most straight-forward, thoroughly substantiated information and advice on the auto-immune disease topic. IMHO..........

First of all, i am returning this book because the font is so small that i had to use 10x magnifying glass to try reading it (and everything fine with my eye sight and i am young person), i showed this book to my colleagues at work and asked whether they consider reading this book, all of them said no because of the size of the font. We all tried and it was too much for our eyes to handle. I am very well familiar with what Keesha does and in the past has been her patient, too bad its impossible to read the book as i am sure there is some good info in it. From what i was able to read, before i gave up, i can tell tha5 its a mix of ayurveda and some alternative approaches, it can help you get started on your journey, but keep in mind that Keesha advertises mostly her programs in the book and tries to sell her services.

Dr. Ewers is amazing! Full disclosure: I'm a current patient of her's. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease, and I've already lost about 15lbs in 6 months and dropped two pant sizes. It's not all about weight, of course, but when you work out 5 days a week and still don't see any results and feel exhausted all the time, it's a big milestone. I'm looking forward to reversing my autoimmune disease by following the advice in this book. I really think she hit the nail on the head by relating our physical ailments to emotional trauma. It sounds maybe a bit far-fetched, but if you dig, you might find this to be true for you too. Dr. Ewers gives tools to analyze this further in her book.

What an important resource for anyone wanting to truly heal from autoimmune disease. Dr. Keesha presents a well-rounded framework and provides clear examples of why change is necessary - not just in what we eat, how we process toxicity and heal the gut, but how we think! There are integration exercises throughout the book so that you can follow along and turn insight into action.
