I recently graduated from a point and shoot camera to my first DSLR, the Nikon D3200. I was trying to decided between this book and a few others, and ended up choosing this one because it has a chapter completely dedicated to Landscape Photography, my main use for the camera.This is a great book for both getting yourself familiar with the D3200, as well as learning to get good photos with a DSLR. I particularly like how each photo in the book lists the ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed on it. I found this incredibly useful for gaining a better understanding of how those interact. I spent a few hours one evening reading through a lot of the book, and then went for a 10 mile hike in the CO mountains the next day and took photos that I was very happy with.My only gripe, and it's minor, is that there were a few times when a feature was discussed in the book, and it took me several minutes of messing around with the camera to figure it out. In both cases I found the explanation much further into the book in later chapters. Two examples:1. One of the first things the author encourages is to take the camera off of ISO Automatic mode. This being my first DSLR I had turned it on into the Auto mode I was used to, and could not figure out why the camera would not let me change the ISO. After much trial and error I figured out you have to be in one of the manual modes to change the ISO. This is mentioned in the chapters that deal with manual modes, but not when he first instructs you to make the change.2. The author explains all of the different viewing modes to review photos on the camera, and instructs how to enable them, but not how to actually access them with your pictures until later chapters. After hitting just about every button on the camera, I finally figured out that hitting up/down while viewing a picture does this. Again, this gets explained eventually, but not when you first learn about it.Outside of those minor frustrations, I found the book extremely informative and useful. I definitely recommend, especially for a new DSLR user looking to learn about taking better photos in addition to just using the D3200.

When I first purchased my Nikon D3200, I purchased two books - this one and David Busch's Nikon D3200 Guide.The Busch book is a fine book to have in your arsenal as it explains in minute detail how to operate every feature of your new camera. However, while it's a great operating manual, it doesn't teach you how to use those features to take great photographs.Nikon D3200: From Snapshots to Great Shots is more of a photography how-to book than an operating manual. You'll find plenty of tips here on how to operate your camera, but they're covered in the context of how to apply those features in order to take satisfying photographs. Some of the features that I particularly like in this book are the large color photographs at the beginning of each chapter which have call outs explaining how the camera was used to take the shot. I also found the step-by-step instructions for various tasks involved in different techniques extremely helpful. The assignments at the end of each chapter can be somewhat simplistic if you're already an experienced photographer, but even the simplistic assignments can help refresh your memory. The writing style throughout the book is conversational in tone and the language is approachable and easy to unerstand. I almost felt like a friend was explaining things to me.Overall, this is an excellent book that helped me to begin taking better photgraphs with my new camera right away. I know I will return to it again and again as I try new types of photography. I do think that Busch's book is worth purchasing as a companion as it provides a much more detailed technical look at the D3200, but this book is really a great starting point for anyone getting started with the Nikon D3200.

This is a great book. Simple written, straight to the point and with easy assignments to make you get more confortable with your new gear. The Nikon D3200 is an amazing piece of equipment, but you will be missing a lot using it as a point and shoot camera.This book will not teach you all about photography, but will teach you how to take amazing pictures with your new camera, and you point you to the right direction to became a proficiente amateur.I found it more way more useful than the "For Dummies" series, for half the price. Read it, practice with your camera, then came back here and search for books like "Understanding Exposure" or "BetterPhoto Basics: The Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Taking Photos Like a Pro" and take the next step.And if your are looking for tips about making movies, this is the wrong book. There's another one from the same series about it.

Dr. Martos has written a masterful work documenting the history of the seven sacraments. By the end of the book, I had gained considerable appreciation for the work of the Holy Spirit in growing the great oak tree of the Church. Dr. Martos provides a fair and balanced description of sacraments in the Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant churches. His liberal diatribes are distractions, especially the one on priestly celibacy, but thankfully these are short and tolerable. If there is a future edition, I hope he deletes the diatribes and replaces them with an expanded coverage of the Eastern Orthodox and Uniate Mysteries.

Martos's treatment of the history of the sacraments is comprehensive and very enlightening, and presented in a clear and orthodox manner. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in the Roman Catholic view of the sacraments or in Church history.There are only two disappointing aspects. First, Martos's treatment of the later 20th century gives the impression that sacramental theology is now indefinite, but that this does not matter as long as the believer finds their concepts to be "doors to the sacred." Secondly, he has the rather annoying tendency to use American RC parishes as illustrations of the promise ofVatican II fulfilled. For example, in his treatment of the sacrament of Reconciliation, he overly stresses "communal guilt" and such "corporate" sins as racism, and suggests that sacramental confession of individual sins fell by the wayside because of this new "awareness." Both are faulty concepts which he presents as if they were highly positive.It is a fine reference work, but serious theological students will need to be certain it is one of several.

A very detailed read and very informative.This book gives a detailed and enlightening historical view to the sacraments. This book was VERY helpful because I grew up protestant and do not know much about Catholicism and the ritual practices. I am not a history person but this book was really good. Along with the historical aspects of sacraments, the author lays out the information in a detailed manner that makes learning history more interesting.

Book was to supplement a study program I am in.

Very useful to learn or even gain better knowledge of the sacraments. It has so much rich history included that you will get something out of every page.

Just got my book. It looks like a fun book. I like most of the pictures.... however I wish the cat mouths were closed and did not show fangs.

This book is obviously self-published, probably by someone looking to make a quick buck on the adult coloring trend without putting much effort into the product. Like other reviewers, I wanted a cat-themed coloring book. It gets two stars for meeting that requirement.The back cover image (which is very cheap-looking and stylistically doesn't match the rest of the book) bleeds onto the front. There is no copyright page, which is telling since the styles of designs in the book vary to the point where it's obvious they're from multiple artists; some of the drawings feature the same cat faces in different settings, making me wonder if those pages were designed with pre-made vector sets rather than being hand-drawn by the mysterious publisher. The quality of images is very poor--almost all of them are highly pixelated like they'd been stretched to fit a letter-sized page. The paper is very thin; it's your basic 20-lb copy paper, so markers will not be the best medium for coloring the pages, as they will bleed through badly. At least the pages are one-sided.I received this book as a promotional item through a review site, however the seller failed to provide a working discount so I ended up paying full price anyways. You'd be better off shelling out the extra $2 for a Dover coloring book.

I bought this coloring book as a gift for my sister in law, who's the ultimate hippy cat lady and a coloring lover.The book has a total of 19 coloring pages, instead of 20 as stated in the product description. 4 of them are almost identical, 3 look like their drawn by hand and several pages are a rather small motive which leaves them with very thin lines that don't seem good coloring quality to me whatsoever.The fact that there are almost repeating motives in there goes a bit against the “creative” in the product description as well.In the end it says "Thank you, I hope you had fun". That's just kind of weird to me. "I" hope you had fun, so who is "I"? There's not story line through the book or anything so this is so really random.Overall I am not too impressed and a bit disappointed, but for $5.99 it is a “you get what you pay for” kind of a deal I would say. It's not absolutely horrible but also not of a high quality happy maker in my opinion.3 Stars given, an “it's okay” since the pages are clear, decent quality paper and the price is appropriate.- - -I have received this item at a discount in exchange for an honest review, reflecting my personal views and perceptions

I love all the adult coloring books that are becoming pretty popular now and was excited to find a cat themed one. Upon arrival I was disappointed though. The photos inside this book are not full page like other adult coloring books, it almost looks like someone just found random cat coloring sheets on the internet and printed them onto printer paper. Even coloring books you get at the dollar store cover the majority of the page with the character and a background. The lines of the drawings are also not clear and crisp. They look pixelated like the photos have been enlarged to try and fit the paper size. Like another reviewer said, it looks like someone trying to make a quick buck off the new adult coloring craze but in a cheap way. Definitely is not worth $5.99.I want to say I received this product at a discounted price for my honest review but it's discounted listing was $5.99. Came to the listing on Amazon to find out $5.99 was the full price and was not a promotional price as they were supposed to list it at a discount for reviews. I went ahead and ordered it because I wanted a cat coloring book and it was still a good price for an adult coloring book. Sadly, not a good price for this one.

Cats are posing, hiding in a house, weathering the rain and sitting in baskets. I like that some of the pages contain a lot of details, while others are kept a little more simplistic. Some days you might be in the mood to be very detailed, while other days you'll just want to be able to start and finish a picture in the same setting.Although the coloring book is promoted as an adult coloring book, the pictures are appropriate for older children and teens to color as well. The pictures are just on one side of the page which makes it nice. Completed pictures could easily be framed and given as a gift.If you know of someone who loves cats, then they'll love this coloring book. Give the book as a birthday or Christmas gift, or as a thinking of you gift for someone who is in the hospital or a nursing home. Add a special touch by including gel pens and colored pencils.I received this item at a discount in exchange for my honest review. But there's only four of them, and maybe you don't find fluffy kittens with preternaturally long fangs creepy!I'd have preferred a better quality of paper (markers bleed through, and I can't use my watercolor pencils at all), and perforations to more neatly take out individual pictures.Still, the pictures are by different artists, which makes for a nice selection of styles, and the majority of them really ARE cute. And what was I expecting for $4 anyway, a collection of colorable Vermeers? So yeah, for the price, I'll give it five stars. But I'll probably go for a pricier book next time.

My 7 and 10 year old grandchildren and I had great hope for this book after reading great reviews, but had the opposite experience! After reading half of it, the book went in the trash (I had no desire to give it away and subject anyone else to the waste of time). We simply could not relate to the characters and didn't find it the slightest bit interesting.

The books were sooo much fun. My daughter would not stop reading them.

My daughter plows through Humphrey books. Loves them. Read this one as quickly as the rest of them.

My 6 year old loves this book. I've been looking for chapter books for her to read, because she's required to read 20 minutes a night for school. I've been a little frustrated with so many of the books with bratty or smart aleck kids. I've read parts of this with my daughter and I love these books. Humphrey is always helping children and trying to get them to all get along.

How can you not love Humphrey??? :) I've been reading these books with my daughter and son for years and we all enjoy them! The audio versions are fun too! My six year old will happily turn off his video games and play in his room with Legos while listening to Humphrey!! :) Great stories for any school age kids!!

We only bought this at the recommendation of my daugter's teacher. Originally, my 10-year old daughter wanted to take (what she thought would be) the easy way out and read Diary of a Wimpy Kid for her book report. She thought she was sly because most of those books are pictures anyway, so it wouldn't be much reading. Her teacher said she would allow that, but recommended that she try this book instead. As soon as this book was delivered, my daughter started reading. After a few pages, she commented how incredibly sad this book was, and I thought that was it. I didn't think she'd even give it a chance. Needless to say, she finished the book and LOVED IT! She was having a really hard time getting enough substance out of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book to write a book report about, but once she read the Tulane book, the report just flowed out of her. It was amazing. She loved the book, and I think she got something out of it. I feel like she learned about loyalty and appreciation for the people who care for you.

With tears in my eyes, I write this review, as I have just finished The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. This book was suggested to me by Amazon. We have 12 grandchildren and they are all avid readers.This book is a children's book, a lesson in life and loving, tells of heart break and loss, of being selfish and then knowing what real love means. And it also shows us to appreciate all that happens in our life and the people that we meet and our experiences, as they help us to grow and be what we should be.

When your 8 1/2 year old granddaughter runs to you and says, "This is the best book you'll ever read, Grandmom. Now here, read it" -- well you know that's what you must do. I was expecting a silly rabbit story, big font, short words. I was so, so wrong. I began that evening and could hardly put it down at bedtime! The writing is excellent and the characters are engaging. There were some words that I was sure Audrey would not have understood. And the depth of the characters is beyond a 2nd grader's understanding. A teacher read this to her enriched language arts class and thus was able to explain some of the deeper meanings. As I neared the ending of the book, I kept a tissue close by as I feared for yet another disaster. For my granddaughter and for me it will be a reference point to which we can return again and again through the years and peel back even more layers of this marvelous gem of a book. This book is as close to perfect as I've found. The story does what fiction does best- draws the reader in, busts their heart wide opens, and leaves them a little changed by the end. DiCamillo explores what we all long to feel and understand- love- and she does so in a way that a child can grasp perhaps better than the adult reading it to them. But adults can get this story too. The characters are striking, and the events haunting to anyone who has felt love and loss. Be careful reading this book if you have a heart- you may find it.

Another teacher recommended this book to me and as a Kate DiCamillo fan, I purchased two so that I could read it aloud to my class this year. My class LOVED this read aloud and talk about it constantly, even still, after it's been about a month since we finished it and have moved onto reading Tiger Rising (also recommend that book by Kate DiCamillo especially for studying symbolism). My kids were really bored with the first two chapters of this book and then they were HOOKED instantly. We used the book to study characters and it was perfect for that purpose. There are so many characters and Edward changes beautifully throughout the book.

I have read this book to all 3 of my kids over the years (multiple times to each of them). My oldest is 19 and in college and my youngest is 9. I've read it so much I think I could recite it with my eyes shut in places. The story is captivating and heartwarming. Even though things change and life takes you in directions you had not planned, and even when nothing seems to be in your control, it's reassuring to know you always find your way back home. Each time I read it, I pick up on more and more of the little details that foreshadow the story and tie it together. Love this author. Am buying this again for my niece's daughter now who is 8. This is the PERFECT bedtime story. LOVE IT!

I had to get this book for a college course on children's literature, and this is now one of my favorite books.I read it I one sitting, and i think any child with a love of reading aged 8and up could read it fairly easily.This book is such a gem. I wish i had gotten the hardback version, but i had no idea how much i would love it.This is a book i will read over and over. Its about love, loss, perseverance, being strong in the face of helplessness, and hope. But it's much more than that.It is beautifully written, and has a perfect ending.

Edward Tulane is a distinguished, but vain, china rabbit. Edward’s girl Abilene loves him and he loves her right back. When Edward’s perfect life takes a turn for the worse, he learns there is more to life than trinkets and fine clothes.I really love Kate DiCamillo. Her book ‘Because of Winn Dixie’ is one of my favorites. I only recently heard of ‘Edward Tulane’. As soon I found out it is a story about a vain stuffed rabbit, I had to read it.The people Edward meets along his journey all have hard luck stories. Along Edward’s travels and with every new person he meets, Edward learns a lot about himself and the world around him. He bonds with all the people he travels with and helps fill a void in each and every one of them. In this Edward learns humility.This book absolutely gave me all the feels. Nellie, Bull & Lucy, and especially Bryce and his sister’s stories all pulled at my heartstrings. This book isn’t just for kids. This book is for everyone. It is amazing, beautiful, warm, and heart wrenching. The amazing illustrations added to the warm fuzzy feeling I got from this book. You must not only read this book, you must get everyone you know to read it.
